Vincit qui se vincit

Class Readings

Emily Dickinson's poems,  "Tell the Truth Slant"
In "Telling the Truth Slant", Emily Dickinson says that the whole complete truth may come like a shock to children, so it should be let on to them slowly, not just at one time. The mention of telling the truth slant, is like telling a half truth, still a truth yet not a truth at the same time. Half truths are the hard to tell if it is a lie or not because it's technically part truth. This poem, catches the whole concept in just a few concise lines, rather than in a long paragraph. It has clear and easy points to understand which attracted me to this poem.

Success

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."
What is success. You define your own success. To some people, success is being the best, achieving their dreams or even going beyond their dreams. To me, success is not just achieving your goal, but to surpass it. To be successful, you should do what makes you happy, leading to a happier probability of success. I think success should be a goal that you put forward to not just aim for what's right in front of you, but for the stars.

The Art of Exceptional Living by: Jim Rohn

He states that the key to exceptional living is to have a daily routine, to have a daily routine takes serious discipline. Of course I agree that to want success, one would have to learn about success. Yet not only do you have to learn about success, you would have to take action to actually be a step to the success you want to achieve. He also says that healthy habits, such as eating an apple a day, which is also a nice habit to have in order to stay healthy and alert.

Aut disce aut discede

Class Stories

"The Devil and Tom Walker" by Washington Irving, was a very intriguing story that made me think of the ulterior motive of life. Money. They all say that money is the root of all evil. However, I disagree, because even though money may be what causes people to change, they do have a choice whether to let money change you or change you for the better.
"Dr. Hiedegger's Experiment" by Nathaniel Hawthorne, also shows human nature. The nature of people willing to do whatever to be young again. These two stories are similar where both teach lessons and show people about the human desires and how they manage to motivate people to do the unimaginable.

Things, Fair, Class

Interesting things...
Interesting things I like to do.....don't really count as interesting I think more of something I do to pass time. However, I am interested in movie making especially mission impossible movies.

Science Fair
Oh..science fair. Having to choose between doing a physics project or a chemistry project is hard. I have not found anything that I'm really interested yet. However, I did find a project that intrigued me ( http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/project_ideas/Chem_p078.shtml ) thanks to the countless episodes of CSI and various crime dramas I've watched.

Lit Class
While reading the Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, and learning about the horrendous environments he was put in as a young child and surviving through the tough times especially being torn away from his sister. I respect him greatly for that. The heinous things that have been done to him don't seem to matter as he learned several languages and was able to tell his story that we know read.
